To the best of my knowledge, offset shots are not available in MAGNET Field set collection. This problem has again become apparent when we were shooting property corners along a right-of-way that involved a sidewalk. Offset shots are necessary when property corners fall under a sidewalk. We don't want to switch to manual mode and book the shot because we want the raw data. Any suggestions??ÿ
It??s there. If no one beats me to it I??ll get you some photos tomorrow, when I??m back in the office.?ÿ

That's not true. Magnet Field set collection does not identify the difference between sideshot or traverse points. You can set collection to any point, and multiple points within a set. I don't know why you mention manual booking a point when you are using a fully capable data controller.
I not sure what you are trying to say.

When working in set collection, we don't see an option for offset shots in the M menu.
You want to do distance offset while performing an angle set collection??ÿ That's just not possible.
Why would turn multiple angles to a point that is not the actual position. Angle and distance offset would be counter intuitive with a set collection.?ÿ
Aren't you required to measure the point directly?
You want to do distance offset while performing an angle set collection?
Yes. What I would do is give the instrument man a plumb bob string shot on the point, then have him put me on line between the point and the instrument. I would give him a plus distance to the point and he'd collect the point on line. Our prism pole has a radius of 0.06', so if a point lies less than that distance behind a sidewalk, I can't set our prism pole on it.

Not set collection (standard / simple) distance offset
I need set collection. Thanks for responding.
This will work with double center (direct/reverse) in the topo settings. You just will not get a seperate backsight reading.in your set.

There's nothing magical about sets; they are simply multiple observations of an angle in both faces.
Observe the offset with F1, change face, observe again, repeat until content. Then observe the backsight in the same manner (minus the offset of course). Or do it before the offset observation. Doesn't really matter as long as you make sure that you're zeroed up on the BS before initiating the process.
The effect is the same as a set observation - precisely because it is a set observation, just not done through the Sets menu. You might not get automated reports on standard deviations afterward, but those things are easy enough to QC as the shots are taken.
Not sure how Magnet handles it in the field, but surely it's easy to reduce the repeat observations and combine them in post-processing.
