I did some searching on here about this but only found conversations about preference. I have a Canada related question.
Our Schonstedt GA92XTi crapped out a couple weeks ago. Bought in 2003. Went for warranty repair in 2007...another repair in 2012. 2012 cost around 300. So we are in Canada and Schonstedt tells us to send to a Canadian dealer. They want 900 to make repairs. Think we should buy a new one. They want a hair south of 2k Canadian for a new one and give us a 150 rebate for the old one. We found another local place that wants 1695. Today we found them on US sites (Berntsen and Hayes ) for 800 U.S..
So questions are... which is the better place...where does warranty repair happen? And what kind of tax or brokerage fees would we be looking at.
Why so much, and why so often?
They owe you a detailed explanation, like we give.
The usual problem is the ribbon cable that bends, a cheap item that looks as though it can be fabbed.

The answer to why so much is tariffs. Protecting the Canadian pin-finder industry from American competition.
Cansel has Schoenstedts for $1400C. That equates to about $1100US.
