One of the corners I was working on this week had notes from a 1973 recovery that he'd found the stumps of the trees - scribing was visible but not legible because of having been burned. The trees had been 18 in. tamarack when scribed in 1903-

the one stump I looked at was charred but no scribing was visible to me.
