Hello,
I'm relatively new to this field of work.
(In school)
I was wondering what some uncommon areas were as far as field work. I'm young with no real ties so I'd like to try what I can why I can. I understand that I will most likely need more experience first, but I'm curious just the same.
Thanks
Uncommon describes the work of many here. While it's true that many of us do similar work there are plenty who contribute here who do projects and locations where most of us would never expect to participate. Everything from the top of the new World Trade tower to underwater, from Alaska to New Zealand, from mountains to beaches, from ultra-rural to megalopolis, from swamp to nothing but concrete and steel.
Many do boundaries. Quite a few focus on construction. Some are specialties such as photogrammetry, ships, industrial plants, dam deformation, caves and mines, mining claims, forensic investigations.
Archaeology comes to mind. I worked with a party chief who spent several winters in South America mapping Aztec temple ruins and the like. I thought that would be a lot of fun but probably didn't pay all that well.
Forensic surveying comes to mind when you speak of different areas of surveying. Such as car accidents, industerial accidents etc.
