Does anyone know the specific diffrence in Leica Robotic TS models with the plus ( + ) compared to without? does it make a real world difference?

2008 1203+ TPRC R300 compared to no plus?

Any insight would be great.
Thanks

As far as I'm aware, the "+" marked models had upgrades inside the scope, this allowed for longer reflectorless ranges. The original 1200 series could measure up to 300m reflectorless, whereas the later + models had the option of 400 and 1000m. I'm not sure whether there were any increases in speed or accuracy of the EDM but that could also be a possibility. The display was also upgraded to be a colour screen.

The two generation of the 1200 series instruments are easily distinguished by looking at the scope. On the original 1200's the power search module and guide lights are located top and bottom of the scope, whereas the + instruments have it all in a window on the top of the scope. Also the covers for the scope are different, on the original 1200's the screws securing the covers are near the top and bottom of the scope, and the + instruments have the securing screws closer to the centre near the lens and eye piece.

Thanks!
I was told the tracking was better on the plus models?
I am looking at buying a used 1203 TCRP without the plus but I cannot seem to find info on the different models and when they were released.

VRMTSRVY,

There were many improvements in the TPS1200 Plus series and many of them have carried on into the new Viva system. I have a PDF of the white paper that was released for the TPS1200 Plus series if you want me to email it to you.

Improvements:

A. New EDM Board - single board design that generates IR and RL from one board, more accurate IR and RL specifications, visible read laser pointer does not need user adjustment; improved design of optical path with EDM beam, increased reflectorless EDM range

B. New ATR (Automatic Target Recognition) sensor - higher resolution, move to CMOS array, prism picture better in situations with background lighting, firmware improvements to increase performance

C. Power Search module moved to top of telescope housing - FW improvements to increase performance

D. Color screens

Let me know if you want a copy of the white paper.

The original TPS1200 was released in 2004. The TPS1200 Plus was released in October of 2007 I think. I would need to dig up the exact release date.

If you have the article number and serial number (I will need both) from the label in the battery department, I can look up the original shipping date of the unit to tell how old it is.
