For what it's worth, here is a 2022 TS16P for sale with a Carlson RT4: https://secure.fltgeosystems.com/used-surveying-equipment/leica-robots/leica-ts16p-3-r500-robotic-total-station-w-rt4-tablet-lca917448-1/

I put the info into myworld and it has Geocom 827664

Myworld is Leica's website - at least the part that is open to those with a registration and password (ie/ a paid up subscriber). The latest software and firmware can be downloaded there.

Does anyone have experience using a TS16 with the Autopole and Carlson SurvPC or XPAD? Does it work or is the Autopole exclusive to Captivate software?

I do not believe the AP20 will work with Carlson SurvCE/PC or Geomax X-PAD, only Captivate.

> I much prefer Leica’s Smartworx Viva software though, I find Captivate to be a step backwards (use both in style contract work I do)

Luke,

I would be interested to know your reasons here.

I think for most surveyors, Captivate is a big improvement.

Is it a Topo vs Cadastral workflow thing?

If that was directed at me I think XPAD the easiest package I've ever used. Has about 95% of Lexia software I need for fraction of cost.

One feature I wish it had was in Cogo being able to enter grid bearings but ellipsoidal distances like I could with Trimble/Lexia/Javad that I've used. Nothing is perfect

Hi Jim,

Captivate seems to have been designed to run on a tablet but I'd much rather have a controller with actual buttons for topo/LT. If I was Trimble side much prefer tsc5 over tsc7 especially up the back of a farm walking or in the bush. Can see the tablet be good for construction layout where you have the DWG on controller.

Given the CS20 has a pretty small screen swip swiping on it isn't that easy and arrowing across is slow. Smartworx Viva had a six pack of icons on the screen and you learnt quickly the number on a real keypad to press to get to the next screen you wanted. Bit like how command line in autocad is quicker than having to navigate than all the menu's in 12d.

It doesn't help that the cs15/gs16 is a lot lighter on the pole than cs20/gs18 either, only use I've found for tilt for LT is poking the pole tip into barberry hedges so I can see if there are roots in position before we cut a hole in hedge.

It's usual that the surveyors are arguing over who gets to take the older gear!
