Does anyone have any experience using a robotic instrument on shore to give positions to a depth sounder package (hypack, etc) via NMEA? We are renting a sounder with a custom software package that I don't have my hands on yet but I'm trying to figure out how to do it beforehand. I have found the GSI output and the Pseudo NMEA GGA option. Testing it with SurvPC as a generic NMEA bluetooth GPS I can't get it to output a position. My next step is to try to look at the raw string.

Anyone get this working in any capacity?

Ease,

The raw string is shown in the Technical Reference measurement under the GSI Output section. I can download the manual and post a screen capture if needed. If you have not looked at the manual yet the Pseudo NMEA is a GGA string that only exports the position in your local Northing and Easting - not Latitude and Longitude as a true GGA string would contain.

You can look at the raw sting in the manual or use Windows Hyperterminal to capture the output in real-time. There are free version of the HyperTeminal type applications out there if you are running Windows 7, 8, or 10. I have one but it is on my backup drive at home and I do not have access to it at the moment.

This has worked for many people using popular Hydro software like HyPack.

Thank you. No need for the screenshot I think I found that page. I bet that's why I'm not having luck with SurvPC because it's not a lat/long position in the string.

Robots don't normally do NMEA. That's a GNSS thing.
