For instance if I just wanted to do a quick trig level. It seems the only way to get the gun to spit out data is to go into a job and then you always get an error about the occupy point already existing or something.

There must be a way to just turn it on and start measuring?

You can always specify a different point, or use the one it prompts for. I was always happy to get past that. As long as the instrument spit out a measurement I had a calculator for the rest.

Good Enough,

I think this is what you are talking about.... how to put the instrument into manual mode just to measure angles and distance.

On the TPS1200 and it should be the same way on a TS12...

1. In the main menu open the CF card door and remove the card.
2. Close the CF card port door
3. Select 1 Survey or the Survey application

..... You are now in manual mode and do not need to set a job or change point Id's

If you want to set the horizontal to zero you can select F5 (Set Az) to place the starting angle. You will need to input a Point ID in the BS ID: field in this screen but you are not storing it to any job or record in memory.

So that is how to put the TPS1200 or TS12 in "Manual" instrument mode.

Man!!! I wish I would have known that. 🙁

Mark, If the CF card is removed, is the instrument operating without the latest Check & Adjust ??

Thank you

R.J.,

The CF card is only needed while performing the check and adjust routine to write some temporary files during the tests. Once you are out of the Check and Adjust routine you do not need the CF card unless you are using the on board software. The values from the Check and Adjust application are kept in internal memory of the instrument.

If it's like the 1200 series then there is no need to remove the card; just open the card door, start "SURVEY", then close the door. Leave the card in and remove the chance of losing it.

That message you're getting before entering a job is the "Setup Reminder". You can turn it off in the first page of the setup config screen. If you turn it off you could glide right into a measurement screen with two button presses from the main menu: [1] [F1].
