The theodolite was working fine before I had to get the internal battery replaced. Now with everything reset to default it will not level correctly. I've run multiple set/mode/12 routines at various angles and I'm consistently chasing 20arcSec. Is this a TL/QL parameter adjustment issue, or is there something I forgot to do? I also noticed the bubble level indicator is off from the 'comp' tilt display.
Probably unrelated, but here's a quick story about a Total Station (HP-3820A) that would not level up one day.
Back in December of 1979, our Geophysical Tech and I drove up to a project in Southern Idaho, to run a quick Gravity Spur Line (about a half-mile as I recall).
I set up on one of our Control Points, while Dennis got a Gravity Reading with a LaCoste & Rhomberg Model G.
The HP-3820A had an "electronic bubble" and the damn thing would NOT null out. It would "run" all the way one way, and then run all the way the other way over the course of a minute or so (time). It was driving me nuts.
The Gravimeter would NOT null out either (UP...DOWN), screwy as hell, even the level bubbles were squirrely!
We tried for an hour or so, and finally gave up, and drove back to the office in Utah.
When we walked in the office, my partner the Geophysicist had a big grin on his face, and said "you're back early, how did it go?"
We started to tell him about our problems, and he said:
"I expected that, there was an 8.2 Earthquake in Ecuador early this morning, and it will be several days before we can expect to get any gravity work done!"
I was surprised that the crustal undulations were significant enough to screw with the 3820A "bubble."
