Hello..we have a dead backup battery in one of our Leica SR530 GPS..
Anyone ever replaced this? Is the battery soldered to the board or does it just sits there and can be removed by pushing on the pins?

TIA

I don't know how the SR530 but I have had similar problems with Ashtech receivers.?ÿ

First with some of my Z-12s. The internal memory needs the internal battery to maintain memory. I found I could keep the receiver on with an external battery after closing a file and disconnecting the antenna, then download it as soon as I got back to the office.

With a dead internal memory battery in my Z-extreme since the data was on a flash card I could power it up and download at the office. With either type of receiver I had to redo my settings every time I powered up. Since it is easier to redo my settings on the Z-extreme when it is hooked to my computer, I sometimes power it up, change the settings and take it to the field without turning it off. Jus connect the antenna when I get there.

Either of those methods can keep you in business until you replace the receivers or find someone to install a battery. Since the internal batteries are typically soldered to the motherboards it is best to find a true expert.

BTW, one of my Z-12s has a two battery pack soldered to the motherboard and I have easily replaced those batteries several times, since they don't seem to last as long with a maybe type connection.

I replaced the backup batteries in two of my SR530's last year. It's a very easy job. The batteries are round- probably 20mm in diameter and 3 - 5mm thick. They have 3 pins on one side in the shape of a triangle. They are soldered to the board in an area where there is plenty of room to work and there is also plenty of room to work where the actual soldering needs to happen. It's an easy job.

You have to watch for the height of the replacement Battery, maybe measure the old one.

Once somebody replaced a bigger battery in this GPS500. But then it was a little to tight to the metal mount and it almost did not fit into the case. With some pushing it worked...

BatterySL 386 2
BatterySL 386 1

But the batteries mentioned above (SL-289P or ER32L65) should be good.
