I've only always used Topcon GPS and Total stations running Carlson SurvCE and am interested in a used, older but still reliable robotic total station.?ÿ In particular, the models that can also be set up as a Smartstation.?ÿ I'm not really sure which ones are capable, but I'm looking at TCRP 1203/1205, 1203+/1205+ models.?ÿ What is the difference between the?ÿplus and non-plus models??ÿ Also, can the older 1103/1105 models be set up as a Smartstation.?ÿ And what are the differences between say R100,?ÿR400, and R1000's? Please forgive my ignorance, as Leica is completely foreign to me.

Please weigh in with anything and everything.?ÿ?ÿ

First of all, welcome to the form.

I used the 1200 series with an ATX1230GG as a smart station for years until I replaced them with MS50s.?ÿ The main problem I see with it at this setup is the ATX1230.?ÿ That being said you can use the TCRP 1200s with both CS10/15 using Viva and CS20 using Captivate which opens up your GNSS options.

I think the main difference in the TCRP1200 & 1200+ series has to do with the internal boards but nothing major.?ÿ The R number deals with the reflectorless measurement distance to a 18% surface.

The older 1100 series was never outfitted to be a smart station on its own and I'm not sure that the newer collectors will communicate with it.

As John mentioned, the "+" has longer reflectorless range and improved target acquisition (larger camera). There was a paper somewhere on the web which explains all of the leica's designations.?ÿ

1200+ changed the RL EDM to be the same unit as the Prism EDM, all red laser rather than infrared emitter, more stable alignment. Also changed from quad encoder to some kind of continuous quartz substrate. Distant recollection.

I thought that the major difference between the TCRP1200 and TCRP1200plus was that the RCS1200 remote control simply mirrored the TCRP1200 screen. Whereas the TCRP1200plus controller ran software in it's own right and the TCRP1200plus became a "slave". This then opened up possibilities like smartstation and is how it's been done ever since.

I am pretty sure the 1200 cannot be used with smart station, nor viva and captivate for this reason.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Smart Station was introduced on the earliest 1200's, data collector inside the instrument and RX1210 control surface only. Ran VXworks OS. When the RX1250 came out, it ran WinCE for an actual separate data collector (could be switched between TPS and GPS with the right licensing).?ÿ Smart Rover and Smart Pole.

I have one of the first TCRP 1201s sold on the west coast.?ÿ The all of the 1200 series run SmartWorks onboard. Mine originally came with the RX1210 which is similar to the RCS1100 in that it is merely a terminal.?ÿ I had mine upgraded with the communications side cover when that became available which allows for the ATX1230 to be attached to the 1200 and controlled onboard.?ÿ The RX1250s, which were introduces along with the ATX1230s, are Windows CE devices and run SmartWorks.?ÿ The RX1250 is the only controller that can be used with the ATX1230 in a rover configuration.?ÿ With the RX1250 you can control TCRP 1200 via the 1200's onboard SmartWorks or the RX1250's.?ÿ The 1200 can be used with Viva and I'm pretty sure that I can run it on my Captivate CS20 as well.?ÿ The ATX1230 on the other hand is junk without he RX1250.
