New to Leica LS10. User manual page 98, 14.3, Adjusting Line of Sight Error. Is this the same thing as a peg test? What collimation error would be considered excessive? We do third order leveling.
Here are some field procedures I’ve come up with.
To Set a TP at Proper Distance:
1. Star key
2. Apps
3. BasicLevel
4. Dist [F2]
5. Use return key to return
to LineLevel
To Resume a Job After
Powering Down:
1. Home Screen
2. Programs [OK]
3. LineLevel
4. Start [F4]
5. Set [Set]
6. Continue Line at Station [Cont]
7. Ready to shoot BS Stat. ID is
the current instrument position.
PtID is the BS.
Warning!
Never use the Home key in the
middle of a set (BS-FS). You
will return to the BS reading.
I'm conducting research on collimation error versus level bubble error from a peg test. Most sources say the collimation test and the peg test are the same. One source says they're similar. We're used to doing a peg test with a Topcon DL-502. If error > than 0.003' we adjust the bubble. If I use the collimation program on the LS10, does that mean I don't adjust the bubble? The collimation program allows you to add a collimation correction to the rod readings.

Totally bogus. I wasn't thinking clearly. On the DL-502 we had it make corrections after it gave us an error on the peg test. What kind of corrections? I assume it applied collimation corrections to subsequent rod readings. If that was the case, I assume the LS10 works in the same way. If I remember correctly, the DL-502 gave us the error in linear units. The LS10 gave us the error in arc seconds when we ran the collimation program for the first time. We didn't know how to interpret it. According to FGCS Specifications and Procedures to Incorporate Electronic Digital/Bar-Code Leveling Systems, the maximum collimation error for a single line of sight is 0.10 mm/m (20 arc seconds) for third order leveling.
