Wow... I'm finding this whole thread very interesting and have some questions of my own. From post [msg]201729[/msg]:
>Yes Carlson is to blame.
I infer your meaning to be a "100%" type of statement but I don't know if I necessarily agree with the "absoluteness" being suggested. As a Carlson Software employee with a technical background, I concede that any type of problem described above could be attributed to the software being used. If this turns out to be the case, I invite the OP to contact me or a Carlson Software Technical Support representative for additional assistance. From what I can see, however, the OP is likely based is in the Midwest and had his equipment serviced by an authorized Leica Dealer located in New York. My question is how can you make your assertion from your location in Louisiana?
You followed with this:
>any surveyor and/or tech support person should know that you should not use a robotic instrument on a old, beat-up aluminum tripod. And yes there are tons of surveyors out there that do not know the difference.
With you having said this, is it possible there might be other extenuating circumstances that could be introducing the stated problem(s)?
You [msg=201745]also stated[/msg]:
>be aware that 9 times out of 10 the issues are with the software.
How did you arrive at this conclusion? Are you stating opinion or fact?
I, too, appreciate other equipment representatives and vendors who contribute to this forum in an attempt to help further the professionals that utilize this site. I would hope, however, that decorum rather than aspersion prevails as we attempt to identify and ultimately solve the stated problem(s).
You are right about the prisms.
I bought a Maserati but I'm OK with cheapy tires I got used. Hmm why does this POS wander all over the road?
And the tripods.
The S6 hates aluminum tripods, the whole setup vibrates violently. Still the operator does not like it when I say, "use a decent tripod, for Gawd's sakes."
> You are right about the prisms.
When I bought my TCRA1102plus (used) about a year and a half ago, I also bought a pair of Leica GPR1 regular prisms (for long distances) and a pair of GMP101 miniprisms (for most work). I'm using SurvCE v1.67, and have been impressed with the accuracy of the system, both robotically (which is most of the time) and conventionally. If my version of SurvCE is not handling the ATR correctly, I sure haven't noticed it.
@jim-frame Does your TCRA1102+ track that GMP101 miniprism correctly? On what distances it works well?
I have TCRA1101+ and wondering if PowerSearch and ATR will handle so small prism.
Do you prefer GMP101 over GMP111?
Thanks!
@djdan I never saw a problem with PowerSearch, lock or ATR on my GMP101 when we were still using the TCRA1100 or TPS1200 series instruments. My MS50 and older TPS1200s do have a problem with PowerSearch being able to find the GRZ101 'mini 360' but lock and ATR work great with it.
I use the GMP101 for almost all of my control work. The GPR1 is mainly used for calibrations. Can't help you on the GMP111, never had one but Leica's centering accuracy for it is twice that of the GMP101.
What I meant to say is the accuracy error for the GMP111 is twice that of the GMP101.
I didn't read the entire thread. An important part of getting good results is letting the instrument acclimatize. The manual is online, and it mentions allowing one minute of time for every 2? of difference.?ÿ I would guess that is the formula for normalizing to ambient temperature.?ÿ I don't know enough about it but, if you attach the tribrach directly to the tripod, the temperature dissipation would be quicker ??
edit: 2 Minutes for every 1?
if you attach the tribrach directly to the tripod, the temperature dissipation would be quicker ??
As opposed to leaving it in the box to acclimatize.?ÿ Anyways.
