Clearly, this guy was not surveying. However, what he was attempting to do is no different than the intent of some surveyors. He was trespassing while in the air.
Maybe he was trying to find NORTH.
Why didn't they just use the Google Earth image?
Ok, not quite the resolution they wanted, but where is the dividing line?
"..an unauthorized flying object circling the feedlot poses a food security issue for the facility, especially in a time where agri-terrorism is a threat."
C'mon man, that's a stretch fer sure. "Agri-terrorism"..? Is that a terroristic threat against a stand of wheat?
Of course, I wouldn't expect a paid spox-person to use anything but the latest spin phrases.
Edit: I just realized if there is such a thing as "agri-terrorism" it won't be long 'til I get arrested as a terrorist..
"But honest, officer, I was just trying to get to the Center-of-Section!"
According to the manager of a poultry processing plant, the federal government issued some pretty strict requirements to many agriculture companies and processors to totally secure their premises after 9-11 to prevent terrorist attacks. I guess that kind of makes it a double edged sword - if they are required to keep unauthorized people out, then they should be able to keep out folks that don't belong there, like enviro-terrorists.
I agree wholeheartedly. Agri-terrorism? Really? First time I've heard that term. Wonder if it's real or just some artful journalism.
Is air space an automatic right if the land is leased? Or does it need to be specified?
Just curious.
He should have told them he was a Photogrammetrist just performing a routine boundary survey. 😉
