Upon arrival, contact the State Board for the state in which you set up residence. You will have to meet that state's experience requirements and pass the Surveyor's exam. You may also need some local references.
More than likely you will need to get a job with a local firm and work for awhile to get used to the local system of laws ane regulations. After that you should be able to get the referals, meet the experience requirements and be familair enough with the local laws and regulations to pass the exam.
I spoke with some local surveyors in Germany the last tine I was over there and while the basics of the job are the same the rest of it is a totally different world here. Be prepared for "culture shock", especially if you locate down here in The South. 😉

You won't need to be licensed yourself to work for a licensed surveyor.

You will likely need to work for a licensed surveyor for a while before you can get a license of your own.

well good luck even finding a job comrade. surveyors here in north carolina are starving for work. it's been like this for almost 3 years now. i have worked 2 hours all week and that was just helping a neighbor stake out a property line for a fence.
