I did not know that about the radio in the DC. That is something that I am not too keen on. That ties the system to their DC, which may or may not run my total station and robot. Even if it did, why would I want to carry around the weight of the radio in my DC all the time. An external radio at the rod isn't an option either. May be a deal breaker for the system.
> but the experiment holds promise, I think.
I apologize, my choice of word was incorrect. Instead of tagging along, I should have written something more along the line of symbiotic relationships.
Shawn you are very competent surveyor and geodesist and enjoy technology. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised, like many of us, including myself, when faced with a difficulty or a snag, you see it as a challenge and have great interest in solving it. Hence the quotation above.
But in a hundred users of GNSS systems, how many have glimpse in their eyes (right on, let's troubleshoot this thing) when gear fails? Most business owners buying gear are into to make money, and to charge for the equipment while making money. For many, money alone is not the dealbreaker in buying equipment.
His business model currently will not work for the masses. That is my opinion. Gary and Garth and Burt and whatever the names of his tools, that's too eccentric. He certainly may get a share of the market, and I hope he does as he put his life in this.
Being with larger companies, he did not to worry about promotion, which was in his best interest. He could do what he do best, work with his brain.
You could be very right, James. I don't know the answer. I'm anxious to see how it turns out, as I'm sure many in the industry are (including Javad!). I hope my reply didn't seem to snippy, I have learned a great deal about him in the past year and only wanted to share some insights and alternative perspectives on his influence in precision GNSS.
You are the smartest person I have ever known.
I first heard his name working with an old war veteran that used to say: "Javad, he's a smart mother%^%&er". He'd say that pretty much anytime the subject of GPS came up.
And if you did not agree with him, well, hu-hum...you had to agree with Brian. It was in your best interests!

No radios in the unit equals smaller batteries needed and less weight on top, it is all a trade off. I don't like being tied to a single DC, maybe they could balance the radios, antenna, and batteries in a fixed height range pole.
Frank,
Wow.... two personal insults in a row. Maybe you are just bored lately.
I think you should search for every post I write and post an insult. It would give you something to do with your time and would give me something to brighten my day.
