Another job I'm working on, trying to get into yesterday I managed to get my 4-wheeler stuck, it will be there for a while. So I'm looking near the job site on Google and what do I see:

They are following me everywhere I go.
Wondering if those aren't the result of old?ÿcollapsed Pingos. Remnants of the last time there was permafrost there?ÿwith the last ice age. I'm guessing that since you managed to get stuck it's rather wet which would have played a part in their formation. Just a WAG.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
I got mine stuck one time about 2 miles from the truck, late in the afternoon. I had to leave it overnight. I don't think I slept at all that night. I went back the next day with my dad's tractor, and another 4 wheeler, and got that 4 wheeler stuck, but it was a 2wd only. Got my 4 wheeler unstuck, and finally back to the truck. Took me two days to get the gumbo mud off of the two 4 wheelers and dad's tractor.
trappers put out salt licks when I was a kid. the critters made circles just like that, and about that size.

Not sure what I'm going to do about it, going back maybe Tuesday and give it a look, I'll be going by it on a snowmobile.
Wow, it must be buried then. Glad/hope you weren't hurt. When I stuck mine, I broke through crusted gumbo (river type) mud and sank to the frame. When I stepped off, I sank to my butt in mud. Was very lucky to get out by myself.

Thanks, I'm fine, just bogged down in 18" of crusty snow. I got fooled by the road ruts and shape being mirrored in the snow. Made me think it wasn't so deep. I did have snowshoes.
After getting stuck a few times and a roll over in a creek, been carrying a couple of rope ratchets and a block pulley with and extra 100ft of 3/8 braided nylon rope for assistance.
The trouble with that site is there appears to be nothing to hook a rope to. In that case you would have to bring along an anchor stake.

I don't know the location of the photo, but since you are likely north of me, those "rings" may actually be a glacial landform feature called a kettle.?ÿ There can be buried chunks of ice in glacial till deposits.?ÿ When things get warm enough the ice melts and leaves circular depressions in the prairie.?ÿ Some folks call them "pot and kettle".?ÿ It is common to see this topographic feature in the prairie of North Dakota and northeastern Montana.
