If so try not to feel bad, even this raccoon wasn't above begging for food Yesterday. It was lucky I had an apple on hand which it ate on the spot. I even ran to the truck to get it a handful of potatoes after it devoured the apple. It turned It's nose up from smelling potatoes then thoroughly investigated the instrument case (for more sweet food I presume), and went on down a creek.
Saw a possum trudging through the snow this morning. That was a very rare sight.
[sarcasm]I'd reckon that would have to be sent to Jack Hanna for calibration[/sarcasm]
This might be a good time to share my Granddad's recipe for a good winter drink. We use to rabbit hunt on his place in Freedom, Ok. on snowy days and the highlight was refreshments after the hunt.
And although not near as famished as the poor critters what have to live outdoors, we were always cold and hungry when we finally made it back to the house. I think I was 12 when I had my first "Bloody Bull"...and I "slept" through dinner. :snarky:
Bloody Bull
Good spicy tomato juice and beef broth, mixed with equal parts
1 or 2 jiggers of Vodka depending on the size of the mug AND the size of the recipient
1/2 chili pequin smashed
Gramma's pickled jalapenos as garnish
serve hot in a mug (while sitting down)
Difficult to find redder dirt than that near Freedom, OK. We had a neighbor who escaped Freedom for a better life during the Depression. Any McGee's in your clan?
> ..Any McGee's in your clan?
No McGees.
Jensen, Stite and Beuchter (originally spelled mit a W and a U mit da umlaut). The Beuchter's came from around Protection, KS.
The clan moved east from Freedom to Alva. and that's where my father was born. The Bill Johnson Correctional Facility on the east side of Alva was named for my uncle. He also ran Alva Electric there in the town square until his death...literally. He fell over stone-cold-graveyard dead moving a refrigerator in the back of the store maybe twenty years ago.
There's no living relatives anymore in Alva. All my cousins split years ago. One living aunt moved down here to live with her daughter (my cousin). I do have a cousin that lives in Pond Creek. And there may be a distance great aunt or uncle that hails from the Jet-Nash area still living.
Love the countryside up there. There are still a few places around that you can hardly see any lights at night. A peace that more people should experience, fer sure. 😉
