I've had my iPad 2 for about a month, now. It's the first thing from Apple that I've used/owned since 1977. I'm very impressed with it's capabilities. I got the 16G Wi-Fi only version as I don't need constatnt access to the net (although I can use my phone as a Wi-Fi node if I need).
I'm impressed with AutoCAD WS, although it'll be even better when I can use it to manipulate points and point files, too.
So, has anyone found any other survey related apps?
I can't wait until someone writes for the iPad as a data collector.
I have the 11C on my iPad and just love it. Works just like the real one.
I need that app for Android. I wonder if google goggles can do this.
I have it on my iPhone. Used it a couple of times with mixed results. Had one unknown tree and it nailed it. On a second attempt it gave me like 15 different possibilities so it is not fool proof. Best bet is to photograph one leaf on a clean white background. That seems to give me the best results.
See http://thomasokken.com/free42/ concerning an HP42 simulator -- it runs on many platforms, including Windows, PPC, Android, iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. You'd need to find particular survey programs that run on an HP-42S, but i think there are many of those.
I don't know how you could beat the i41CX+ iphone calculator app.
Someone could really write some cool programs for this one. Many of the original limitations are now gone.

I just won an iPad 2 from JAVAD, as a result of answering 8 questions in a contest they held. I don't own any JAVAD products, but I must say that I am impressed with what I've seen of their offerings.
I have and enjoy using an iPhone. It'll be interesting to explore the iPad.
I'm curious though. I don't see the iPad really replacing the data collector, at least in its consumer form. Though the screen size is appealing, and there would be many things you could do with it, it is that very characteristic (screen size) which would make it impractical in the field. I mean, its simply kind of too big.
Maybe for a big open site, construction stakeout, etc. But for boundary traverse through the woods? Doesn't seem like a good match. Maybe if there was something about mid sized between the iPhone and the iPad. The iPhad or the iPone. With some sort of rugged waterproof case. That'd be interesting.
My office is using a net book in the field. It is about the size of a field book and so far, it has worked out just fine. Of course, the field crew has been told that they will be killed if any harm comes to it.
I have found that this app works well in the field. Besides it is just pretty cool.
