Winter has set in out here on the sandbar. We've had some nice little projects to work on, each of which is on the beach, facing the steady northerly wind that's been blowing in our faces for the past week.

Banjo the Spanish water dog is my helper, he carries spikes, nails, and a tape with him.

Here he is on a job in Wellfleet, revetment repair on the Bay side. This was a beautiful day to be out.

We did have a piling job in North Eastham, again right on the bay, but this time with 25 mph winds out of the northwest blowing in from Massachusetts Bay.
24 pilings, fiberglass yet (I haven't seen those used in residential construction before!)
The building inspector decided that the face of the piling had to conform to the setback requirements, so we had to adjust the location by a half foot around and then cantilever the back porch over the
pilings.
Oh, and NO, the house is NOT going to sit that high! The pilings will be cut to about 2" above the existing grade!

We had on nice little inland project, staking a new house for excavation, and then in the hole for footings. Simple little job with the exception a very "friendly" wild turkey inhabiting the site. He took a shine to me for some reason and followed me around gobbling and clucking.

he liked me so much he wanted to come home with me. I was tempted!!

One last one: We were at Sesuit Harbor yesterday, 19 degrees with the northwest wind in my face, tears in my eyes....I had to park the van to block the wind while I shot across the harbor to pick up the bottom of the sheet piling. The sheet piling is failing, the one repair done years ago in concrete is collapsing so it's time to repair. Dawn is on the rod across the way, using a level rod with a adjustable prism set to an even foot (which I can read for rod height!) she got about 50 shots along the bottom of the wall..... The water was about 12-20' deep....
I'll be back over there in about an hour with the gps to pick up the ground features....It's not any warmer today, but at least the wind has died down!

Thats been the past week for me.....Some work, enough to keep busy anyway!

Don

No hard hat for the pup, we avoid hard hat areas...I don't do much construction layout, single family is about all...

MOT certified? LOL, on a sand road in Wellfleet in the middle of the off season? You can tell what a busy road we were on, hahaha....Maybe a lime green vest is what is needed!

Looks as if you are some sort of animal magnet, Donald. They obviously trusted you enough to get that close. I would of wanted to take the turkey home too! 🙂

Thanks for the pictures.

BTW, your turkey is a she, not a he - you can tell because she has no beard.

I tried that with BunBun, well you can imagine spending most of the day chasing a cat trying to get a stake from his pack. Either that or he decided it is nap time. 😉
