I am hoping that one of the Oklahoma natives in this forum might have some information for me. I will be in Oklahoma City on October 28 to take the OK state exam and as those who know me I like to find monuments of all types. I have been to 18 Initial Points and I would like to add another, but it looks like this IP is behind a private gate. Does anyone know if there is any way I can get access to this monument?
Thanks,
Kurt
IP (as we call it around here) is on private property. There is a dirt road to the monument that has over the years been maintained fairly well. Maybe 15 years ago I took a street bike up the hill so I'm assuming an automobile wouldn't be a problem.
The owner of the ranch keeps the gates locked. As far as I know the owners have always been gracious but don't want their prize Santa Gertrudis bull wandering out on the blacktop. They have always accommodated all that wish to visit as far as I know, but contacting them beforehand is essential.
The man that would probably know their contact info is Burk Cornelius with the OSLS. Here's his email: burk@osls.org
If Burk has forgotten I bet he knows who does remember.

My gosh...has it been three years? my my how time flies.
I didn't know it was possible to simultaneously have a Texas and an Oklahoma license.

I always kind of assumed that if you got your Texas License, they would just throw in an OK license upon request.

Thanks. Based on the board information it looks heavy on PLSS with a mix of OK specific laws and Corner Recordation rules.

Maybe brush up on Oklahoma Statutes Title 60.

Just in case they are still throwing questions in there about trees. 😉
If you get the Okie license, I think it's requisite that you get your feet file to a point an buy some cowboy boots... which more than likely will get you DQ'd from attending the Forester's Ball.....

Ha! You crack me up Mark. It's been 32 years since my last Forester's Ball and all I used to wear were my cowboy boots, but my old feet just don't handle those anymore. Maybe I'll have to get a new pair.

So I never thought I would ever see all of these together under easements:
å¤6050. Easements not attached to land.
The following land burdens or servitudes upon land may be granted and held, though not attached to land:
1. The right to pasture, and of fishing and taking game.
2. The right of seat in church.
3. The right of burial.
4. The right of taking rents and tolls.
5. The rightofway.
6. The right of taking water, wood, minerals, or other things.

Hell yeah, we got easements for everything. Easements to pull in front of a car on the highway from an on-ramp...and then go 45 mph. Easements to pee on the side of the road after your fourth beer....we got your easements! 😉
Another reason to stay out of Okiehoma. By the second beer these days I would be looking for a thirsty tree alongside the road.

Jeez, Goodwin... it's not a competition. Seems like that's two states now that we got licensed in about the same time.
But.... if it was... What state would you sit for next? Lol.

If you have both then, no matter the outcome, you can still bitch about the BLM stealing your land along the Red River

That's the good part.....but the the internal conflict comes when you have that overwhelming Texas need to trash the Oklahoma surveyor as inferior and a half-bubble off.
