The molybdenum mine in Climax use to blast on the weekends. Back in the '60s it wasn't uncommon for a mess of folks to congregate on the side of the highway and picnic while waiting for a blast. The view on some was spectacular.

I'm going up this weekend to survey some new underground workings. They've been blasting the last couple of weeks. There is already a bunch of snow at the mine, somewhere between 8" and 12" with drifting. The mine is just over the hill (to the east) from the Climax. The old mine is at the same elevation as Climax, 11,350 ft. The new mine is a couple hundred feet higher and, everything goes uphill quickly from there.
From the mine looking at Mt. Democrat after a dusting of snow. Climax is on the other side of the ridge to the right of Democrat.
