Hi guys,

AS part of a USAID project, I am teaching a survey technician course in Monrovia, Liberia. Things are going well, buy yesterday, the unregulated voltage in my apartment killed my Topcon BT battery charger. We do have two other total stations but this Topcon was important to teach with because it has a lower motion and because with 27 students I need all the total stations I can get.

Does anyone have a working charger that they could part with. I'd be happy to pay a reasonable amount. I can work out getting your payment and getting it shipped here with ex-wife in Knoxville. My best email is stephencalderpls@gmail.com

It is the older Topcon charger where you hit the switch on the top mount battery and the red light comes on. There are four prongs on the male end of charger. It is a 5 Watt charger with 180mA output.

Thanks in advance,

Stephen

Google those specs. Replace the transformer. Probably one from the R/C airplanes would do the trick. But, a TOPCON one, you will pay more for. As to the voltage prblm, you should order 2 or 3 transformers. You have an ongoing prblm, and may have to replace it again. Solder in the new transformer. Maybe even get one with lights on it. The transformer has ONLY 2 wires out. So, the fact that the 4 wires are there, some are not used, or are wired for the transformer to read voltage.

What is the mains voltage there? possible that it isn't 120 and it might not be 60 hz either, maybe you need a different charger?

You got it, Shelby. Realized the problem a few hours ago. Everything here is 220. Most chargers for laptops etc. these days are dual, but the Topcon charger is not. If I can get another charger I can use a transformer to make it work.

So, the call is still out if anyone can dredge up an old charger. I'll buy the whole old instrument if I have to.

Stephen, what is the "BT #" on the charger? I have a couple of old ones, I'll go check.

Edit. Went downstairs, I have a BC 5, 4 pin with adjustible voltage, from 100vac to 240vac. If you think that will work, give me a mailing address. My email in my profile works

How about a step down transformer?

It's a BC-10B. I have bought them from Hayes.

Thanks Mitch,

Never occurred to me that they would still have that in stock. Just got off the phone with Hayes.

Thanks everyone!
