Hate to admit just how silly I feel.?ÿ I've been doing elevation certificates for over 30 years.?ÿ Received a call today from the client's insurance company.?ÿ The lady explained she had sent in my six-page, 2022-dated forms to FEMA.?ÿ They called her up to let her know the signing surveyor was a dumbass.?ÿ The top half of Page 2 was blank.?ÿ That's sections B and C.?ÿ The meat of the form.?ÿ No elevation numbers on any line.?ÿ No HAG, LAG, FF, etc.
It wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.
Reminds me of a day back in the time of hand drafting. The CAD manager brought me a plat ready for my stamp and signature. The problem was that there were no dimensions on it.
Sh** happens, why did the insurance company pass it along without making sure it was complete, seems like the lady has some egg on her face too.
I once checked an engineering drawing that comprised stormwater details. There were multiple errors and it took multiple iterations of markups to get it reasonably ok. One glaring error remained, in a plan view of a catchpit lid, so I told the draftsman to go away and check that detail and fix it himself. He stared at it for about 4 hours and then came back and confessed he couldn't see the error. So I pointed out that although the CAD work on the catchpit detail was ok, the title of the catchpit detail said "street light elevation". Yeehah.
This form is viewed as a necessary evil in their business.?ÿ You are correct that the deficiency should have been noted immediately upon receipt in their office.?ÿ Goes to show how little attention may be paid by the party in need of our services.
Hat tip to you, Cow, for owning an embarrassing mistake.?ÿ All of us make mistakes.?ÿ I think the "simplest" ones, where you leave info off, are the worst.?ÿ At least you have the maturity to take ownership, admit fault, and make it right!?ÿ Keep getting back up!?ÿ 🙂
I say this every day....you can't check your own work for final, you'll never see the error you keep missing....was taught that by someone smarter than me....
Just found one on a plat my retired Surveyor sent out months ago.
Was a historical basis of bearing....no factor...
