ANYONE ELSE HAVING TROUBLE WITH IE , I AM USING WINDOS 8.1 IE WORKED WELL UNTIL TODAY NOW IT IS VERY HINKY FREEZING SO ON AND SO FORTH
THAQNKS FOR YOUR HELP
I didn't realize people still used IE;-)
I use Chrome and IE both. Some webpages won't work at all on IE and seem to work on Chrome fine. IE freezes up much more often than Chrome.
Chrome for general web use
Firefox for downloads, has many add on routines that allow custom search and downloading while playing video and audio files
Same for my phone plus TubeMate
Internet seems a little buggy today in Nor Cal. Maybe it's weather damage related.
I only use IE for Registry of Deeds research.
The Registry website disables COPY and PASTE, so if I leave it open I have that issue.
The Registry website is built on Java so inherently it has more issues and lag than IE alone. So yes, I do see some issues with IE freezing.
I use Chrome for everything else.
I've been a mozilla firefox guy for several years and don't have the problems I used to have with IE. None of it is perfect, problems are annoying if nothing else, but it's what we have.
I'm going to look into that Chrome option, since a few here like it. Never tried it but it just seems the more you get in bed with google, it's like being in bed with microsoft... the inner circle widens and then you become one. just sayin'
Thanks the issue is that foxfire does not support Norton and chrome tries to disable Norton everytime I try to use Chrome.....
Many people consider Norton to itself be a virus because it so degrades a computer.
"IE problem" is redundant.
> Thanks the issue is that foxfire does not support Norton and chrome tries to disable Norton everytime I try to use Chrome.....
There are a few things wrong with that statement. Firefox doesn't need to support Norton for Norton to do it's job. Chrome will not disable Norton or any other antivirus for that matter. And Norton is just awful in general.
It sounds to me like there are underlying problems causing all of these other problems.
I like Norton, I have had not virus problems using it. I do not know what to say but when I launch foxfire it tells me it does not support Norton..... As far as Chrome goes on more than one occasion it stopped working and informed me that in order to proceed I would have to disable Norton in order to continue. This is why I am using IE BECAUSE THE INTERNET SECURITY THAT I HAVE DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK WELL WITH OTHER BROWSERS.....
MY IE was working until just recently no changes to the computer that I am aware of...so I thought I would check and see if others were having the same problem...
updated foxfire and it now supports my norton password vault
Ditto...

At first I thought we were talking about invert elevation. A sewer MH might be a good spot to through internet explorer eh?
Well it sounds like your problems do have a common denominator -- Norton. It is a known resource hog and has far more than it's share of conflicts with other software. But the only way to find out for sure is to remove Norton and use something else, like BitDefender. If you are running Windows 8, you could stick with the built-in protection and just make sure you keep it updated.
The reason I bring up underlying issues is that many malware will try to sound official in their warnings, in hopes that you'll click something as bait. So my reasoning regarding your error messages has a lot to do with that. You might think the errors are "official" but they may simply just be malware trying to trick you.
That all said, viruses and malware are two different kinds of things. This is where problems happen -- people think they are protected by having an antivirus program, but it is a false sense of security for a couple of reasons: 1.) an antivirus program protects from viruses, but not necessarily from other types of malware; and 2.) Having security programs installed that are not kept up-to-date cannot protect you from the latest threats.
Fact: there is no way to be 100% protected but there are things you can do to maximize your protection.
thnx Wendell
First I did not click on any official looking pop up. I found that the version of foxfire that I was using did not support norton by navigating to the portion of that software that has to do with "extensions"/ add ons. I updated to a later version of foxfire and my Norton is happily working. Thanks for the distinction between malware and a virus.
When I first got mt new computer and operating system is was chocked full of malware. It took me nearly forever to delete and remove all the carp that was set-up as default.
thanks for the bit defender tip. I will check into it
