Sounds like the first time I saw a F-117 Nighthawk up close and personal. It was at a Naval Air Station in FL back in the mid-late 80s. It had just become "publicly" known but still heavily guarded. There was about a dozen Marines surrounding it and they were openly heavily armed. They kept a real close eye on me when I walked up with my 35mm camera with a 300mm zoom lens. I made sure they understood I wasn't about to lay a finger on my camera and understood their position.
I was on vacation then and damm sure didn't feel like getting shot.
These guys were close too.

I did some work at Bradley, and was able to get close enough to the taxiway to have some fun in the jetblast just outside the fence.
