Doesn't really matter as long as the facade is flat and not warped. I tend to try for at least a half dozen points and cover as much as I can see from the setup. Since I don't care about height of the shots I can knock it out a lot faster?ÿ

I usually do building faces right after I set up, or right before I break down the setup. Unless I'm running the SX10 I can do building faces faster while standing at the instrument.

Same here, unless we get to it before the walls are up it's easier to shoot reflectorless. I was always walking up to the corner and checking where the beam hit since it didn't seem to land where sighted (at least on the Sokkia ix - the loaner topcon gt seems to be pretty good). If you saw the quality of the foundation corners we are usually shooting you can see why we're not extremely fussy about them. If I shot it at several different heights along the corner I'd have several different shots. A building corner check is never the best.?ÿ

I could start shooting multiple shots but I'd have to intersect them myself on the tablet. The office would likely be annoyed with the extra work I just created them.?ÿ

It would be a different story if I was doing an srpr or topo on an existing building that's already built. Usually I'm tieing in a foundation on a "dwelling under construction" with chunks missing from the foundation, bends in the walls etc. Stuff that makes the framers very grumpy.?ÿ

I can only dream of using an sx10. Scanning is just a distant goal in my bosses mind.?ÿ

Iƒ??ve a question about Trimble S instruments:

where can I find the EDM constants for PPM calculation? Commonly known as ƒ??first velocitiesƒ??.

Iƒ??ve found several sources for 1st velocity for EDMs, but circa 1995. Nothing newer.?ÿ

@larry-scott

Once you are connected to an instrument, select the menu button, then go to Instrument -> Adjust.

It will take you through all the various calibration routines like compensator, collimation, trunnion axis, etc.

The last item should be "EDM constant". I think that's what you are looking for.

(This is using Access, I am not sure how to get to that setting using third-party field software)

Just to be clear, it's a first correction to velocity, or first velocity correction. It involves temperature, pressure, and humidity.
?ÿ
The constants that go in the formula depend on the optical wavelength used in the particular EDM (color of laser), and nothing else about the instrument. So if you can find that number, there should be information out there to get the constants.

@bill93

yes, Iƒ??m looking for those values.

The formula is:

PPM= C - (Dp/K?ø)

p is pressure ?ÿ

The EDM specific constants are: C and D.?ÿ

This doc list many EDM models. But itƒ??s old and doesnƒ??t list Trimble.?ÿ

@350rocketmike

I usually do several per building face. Definitely 1 close to each end.
