How does one do multiple stakeout measurements of the same point in the same file (Leica Captiva)

So, I use the stakeout function to do check shots.

The reasoning behind this is that the stakeout application shows and records 3-D delta coords.
The check shot function only shows the delta azimuth and delta distance.

The only issue is that I don't know how (or if it is even possible) to do multiple recordings of the same point (each time with a different name). This way, I can have independent recordings to the same check station that can be reviewed both in the field and back at the office (as opposed to overwriting the values of that station each time).

What does everyone else (that uses a TS16 with Captiva) do to get the same (or similar) result?

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you're asking, or over simplifying it, but can't you just store it as a new point number and code it as a check shot? The true station values will be unaffected because you are simply storing the observation as a topo or side shot for lack of a better term.

Leica will let you store it with the same point number. If the point is initially stored as control or as a reference, the additional shots have no influence on the values used. If you are shooting to point that is not labeled as control or reference the new value will be used in a weighted mean for the points coordinates. You can also add a prefix or suffix to any layout point. You just have to set it up in the layout configuration screen.

I think I will just code the new shot and use the cogo inverse button to compare the values in the field.

I was hoping there might have been a quicker function that I could use a shortcut key (similar to check / setout) that allows the instrument to turn to the mark without having to scroll through looking for the mark number or entering it.

I do not like using the mean function as if you are on the same mark, and have an erronious value, it can contaminate the initial value.

Thanks for your help guys.

i find these values slightly more informative than dE and dN as they are a distance independent way to consistently quantify the stability of your setup to any point on-site. but each to their own.

The only issue is that I don't know how (or if it is even possible) to do multiple recordings of the same point (each time with a different name). if i understand your query then it is basic.

while staking-out press [Fn] > [Settings] and 'tick' the box for 'Show user defined page'. select your normal measure page, for example.

now when you are in stakeout you will have the option to [Page] accross to the next page. The point number there will likely be your stakeout point number/identifier along with any prefix or suffix you have specified in the settings for your stake-out points. Whilst the instrument still has a hold of the stakeout values you can enter whatever point number/identifier you like, or modify the existing one, and then [Store]. This setting should persist within the current working style until changed again.
