> I think that is a P20
P20 is shorter, "squarer", and has an antenna on top

I am guessing they're Police Crime Lab employees. Note the use of the antislip tripod setup.
I can read crime lab on their jackets.
Wow!
If one of those tripod legs comes loose from the stabilizer, he'll have a real tricky situation in his hands. He'll be lucky if his fingers don't get smashed first. Suddenly, that "stable" tripod becomes double jointed and probably difficult to hang on to. One thing leads to another and I see a disaster in the offing, particularly if this is a common practice.
Happy New Year, All!
That scene is two blocks from my high school -

Ooh! Sorry For Not Reading It
"Never mind".

If they were
"REAL" surveyors they wouldn't have put all those little markers in the street, just used a couple of cans of fluorescent orange paint to mark the path of the wheels (grin). Seriously though, I haven't carried an instrument on a tripod since the old transit (maybe T2) days.

Leica sells a nifty tripod on wheels that can be locked at the castors to carry your scanner around the site. It holds the tripod in place with flexible straps, and all you have to do is make sure it doesn't hit a pothole.
It's made out of what is basically a sawed-off tripod, and they charge almost $1500.00.
Having purchased one, our next one will be fabricated out of an old tripod, bungee cords and some wheels from Staples for about $100.00.
