Hiperlite radio settings

All,
I have a Hiperlite with the spread spectrum radio. Originally I had the receiver settings set to the spread spectrum radio and recall having no problems with reception. Later I had sent it in for servicing and it came back with the"generic radio" having been set in the setting. It worked fine, but lately it seems to not connect as fast or sometimes at all. Does anyone have any preferred radio settings, or comments on issues between the spread spectrum v generic settings. What do you use?
