Anyone have a Hiper V, if so what is your opinion?

Looking to get into a GNSS System.

Hayes Worry-Free Lease for Topcon equipment seems like a good way to go.

Anyone aware of a similar lease program for Trimble equipment?

Many thanks.

I have a pair of Hiper V's, also have used GR3, GR5, Hiper XT Hiper Lites. The V's are by far the best. They initialize 10x faster than Hiper Lites and XT. Battery is 4 hours, but u get 2 of them. Or use a jump pack at the base. Much lighter than the GR's. Hiper V's can store static on Windows formated SD card. The GR's use some form of Linux I think, a real pita to download. You need Link,Tools or TRU for the GR' s. Just take SD card out of Hiper V and pop in you SD card, copy and paste in Windows.

I have been using a hiper v for the last 6 months. It's a great unit. I have gotten great results. We run it through the tesla and have had no problems with it.

We have (6) Hiper V's. Initially, I had many issues with the radio (lack of range) and the Bluetooth range was horrible. However, these were early models and I was informed that they had manufacturing defects. They have since had the radio boards and Bluetooth warranty replaced. They work great now.

We have found that 12.5/4FSK provides the best radio results and will reach 3 miles. We also run them with our TDL-450H and have great results as well.

We decided to go with Hiper V's as we have (16) Sokkia GRX-1's, which are basically the same receiver in a different chassis. We run the receivers using Ranger 3 with Spectra Precision Survey Pro v5.5.1.

Great receiver. Would (will) buy again.:-)

Can you post pictures of using your HiperV with the TDL 450H? I was told they would only work with trimble. I use SurvCE, is there anything special needed for that combo?

One thing I did when first started with the Hiper V's is purchase two 90° bnc antenna adapter's. This allows the UHF antenna to turn from down to up. Which I feel helps extend the radio range. Never liked seeing that antenna face down. Can purchase these adapters for $5.

We have a base rover Hyper V setup. I love the hardware for static work. The RTK performance is hampered by the software and internal radio limits.
On the office side, Magnet has limited functionality. If you are used to downloading a text file it will get the job done. If you are used to performing post-processing and least squares analysis you will probably be disappointed. It does do basic adjustments.
We hope to find a better software combo as the hardware is good for what we do.

You can post process RTK vectors from Magnet Field data. Not sure why you think not. I use Magnet tools, but you can export TVF Topcon vector format for use in StarNet. Or you can adjust the base and recompute with Magnet field.

Thanks all I appreciate the professional responses.

My use would be primarily RTK for larger as-builts and boundary work.

Looks like a range of 2-3 miles would be possible with an internal radio.

Will also tap into stare vrs systems.

Light weight is key so i would probably pair with a nomad or similar. I have used survey pro for data collection but open to others.

I am not saying you cannot post process. I am saying the options in processing and adjustment are very basic and a bit 'glitchy'...

They definitely work!;-) We bought four TDL-450H. I had some issues getting them to work, but it was only because of my lack of knowledge at the time. I heard lots of salesmen tell me that they wouldn't work with our Hiper V. It was difficult sorting through all of the bu11$ h!t that everyone was telling me. The people at Pacific Crest confirmed that the TDL-450 would work when a few dealers were telling me it was impossible.

The combination that we ended up with was:

Serial Interface
Baud: 38400
Protocol: Tranparent w/ EOT

Radio Link
Bandwidth: 12.5 kHz
Link Rate: 9600
Modulation: 4FSK

The link rate and modulation ended up being the issue. I was trying to run the Hiper V at GMSK, which is 4800 default in the Hiper V, and it was running super hot and killing a deep cycle battery in 5 hours. I've since switched the Radio to 9600/4FSK and the Hiper V to match. It works great and the modulation/link rate fixed our battery issue. The only issue you may have is obtaining a Hiper V to TDL-450H serial cable. They are out there it just takes a bit longer when trying to get them through a Trimble dealer. However, my local Trimble dealer has been super helpful and could easily obtain them for me.

Please contact me if I can be of assistance. I'm kind of an expert now. LOL!:-P

Regards,
Chad

You sir are the man I have been looking for. I (the company I work for actually) have just purchased a new Ranger 3RC with Survey Pro Max. It is an attempt to use 1 collector for the variety of instruments I use. So far no problems with the total station (Leica TS09) but the GRX1 units are giving me fits. It has to be some small setting that is not allowing these to work with the collector. I already knew the GRX1 was a Topcon Hiper in disguise using the Topcon digital UHF modem and that particular setup type is listed in the Survey Pro. Perhaps you could offer some guidance on how to make this work? Next week I'll be testing the Ranger with Trimble RTS 655 robotic. So far no one has said it will definately work with the robotic but no one has stated it won't either:) Tired of changing collectors everytime I switch instruments and chasing coordinate files is a nightmare. Thanks for any help.
