I hiked Enchanted Rock in Texas this weekend. When I got to the summit, I just felt that there should be a brass disc up there. So, I found a monument and an obvious depression where a brass disc had been. Took a picture of it and a scree capture of my iphone 5 and the lat and long, so I could look up the recovery sheet. Well, NGS doesn't show anything close to it, other than a CORS, and I can assure you, this was not a CORS. It may be a USGS monument, but I don't know if there is a way to search for their data sheets or if they even exist.
The Lat is 30°29'24" North and the Long is 098°49'10" West. If it's not super accurate, it came off my phone. 🙂
I do the Texas State Park Pass thing each year and visit the enchanted rock usually twice a year to mostly hike the trails around the rock- I do remember seeing a disk of some sort several years ago- great place to hike...
Hey Kris,
Here is a link.
That's a big ol rock for sure.
I have an ongoing job around there that has magnificent views of that hunk of granite.

Thats a pretty place I have done some Deer Hunting near there, the Ranch we hunted has some stunning views of that huge rock
Cool!!!
The NGS data sheet
http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_mark.prl?PidBox=BN0699
has a 2006 recovery noting the missing disks and remaining stems.
One of the few really good Power Squadron reports I've seen, by the way.
Me and my Wife got about 2/3rds up the rock and it started drizzling rain. That rock is slick when wet.
