Folks,
I am attending college nights and am in need for some help with a class project. I have to conduct a static GPS survey and perform baseline processing using software. I Have 1 Trimble R8 which I regularly use on the NCVRS and up to now I have gotten away with OPUS processing of the few other points I have needed static on. So does anyone have 2 receivers I could use over a weekend for the project. Trimble GNSS would be best but I can probably convert file formats if necessary. I also do not have a post-processing software. Has anyone used Carlson Survnet? I do have that but do not know its capabilities. What software would you guys recommend or does someone have a laptop I can use for a week or so? I appreciate any and all help. I am in eastern NC.

Rambleon,

Glad to see you are taking some classes.

I would try to team up with a local surveyor that has some GPS gear in your area. I don't know the specific requirements of your project, but the GPS gear and the laptop with software is a pretty heafty investment. If you were in my area, I would be willing to volunteer some time for your project, just to help a fellow surveyor out.

As far as the post processing software, you can download GNSS Solutions from the Magellan FTP website. It will process L1 data without a dongle or key, and that is what I use on a regular basis. You can also download Topcon Tools as well. It will process up to 5 points (L1 and L1/L2) without a key. Those two software packages is what I use all the time. I generally check one against the other, and almost always have similar results.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Jimmy

I have used SurvNet. It is a least squares adjustment program; it doesn't process baselines, you need processing software to do that.

As Jimmy suggested, the L1 version of GNSS Solutions is free and for most short baselines L1 is all you need.

You don't need two receivers. The one you have will work fine. You will need to download data from a ngs base station. Most of them have data you can download to use and post process the data yourself. You just tell it what time block of data that you need that coincides with the static session that you run.

As far as software I would suggest topcon tools. Very user friendly.

Hope that helps.

Yes, I need 2 receivers. this project does not allow use of cors stations. I have heard about a deal on Trimble TDC @ 1400$ can someone send me a link for the contact info for that?

You need to complete a project with about $30,000 worth of equipment and software
and your school does not supply it? Do they think that you are going to just waltz down to the local GPS store and walk out with it? I agree with the others, find a local surveyor who has the equipment and a few hours so that he can supervise you.

Rambleon,

I think that the price for Trimble Business Center was for exiting users of TGO with a license.

I am no longer a user of Trimble equipment, but that is what I gathered.

The Topcon Tools will do what you need. It processes both L1/L2, and is free for processing projects with 5 points or less.

Good luck.

Jimmy

Edit: You were interested in purchasing TBC for $1400 or so. If you have those resources available, you may try contacting the local survey dealer and seeing of they would rent you a receiver for the day to do your observations, and then use the software that we have mentioned for the processing. Topcon Tools is the easier of the two to use. I do have to agree with the post above about the school requiring a project like this and not supplying the hardware or software to do it, or at least making it available.
