Where are you located? I surmise that the cold caused the glue on the sticker to fail. Professional shop now required.

Paul in PA

To heck with that.?ÿ That thing has screws on it for a reason.?ÿ Open it up, remove the sticker, close it up, go back to work.?ÿ Don't touch anything else and you should be OK.

?ÿI used to be afraid of doing things like that.?ÿ Total station - fixed the keys.?ÿ GPS, replaced internal batteries.?ÿ I did take apart a clock radio that I couldn't put back together though. 🙂

I'd be careful, opening up an instrument. Remember the thread about moisture resistant instruments? You might need to replace seals, if you want it to stay "weather" proof...

IMHO some things are best left to the professionals... Kind of like when someone tries to survey their own property.

Generally the top cap of the scope is a cover and can be taken off without hacing to adjust anything after replacing.

That may give you access to the tape.

If not the front lens may have to be removed and it should unscrew, I see four small holes where the special tool fits.

If it works ok with the tape as is, don't worry about it.

good luck.

We had (still have it) a sonar unit, bought new in box. After a year or so it started giving problems, and I tried a lot of things to fix it - new transducer, checked all cables etc - nothing worked. Finally in frustration I took it apart to see if there were internal batteries or something in there that could be replaced. There were a couple of levels in the internals but I finally got to the back of the motherboard, and there to my surprise was a hand-written message penned on one corner, that said "bad board".

Might want to pay the extra three bucks to upgrade to the "Supreme Wash & Wax" while it's in the shop.?ÿ

you may want to check with the shop and see what the "Box Job" rate is compared to a regular repair, and then choose a course of action.
