I got a good deal on a used Trimble Nomad 800XL with SurvCE. It has cell modem, wifi, bluetooth, and USB; so, I can connect it to my newer equipment with the same, but:

Is there a way to connect it to my older Topcon TS? A round 9-pin to USB perhaps? Or a bluetooth adapter for the round 9-pin?

p.s., there is a "CAD/Software/Computers" category here on beerleg, maybe a hardware/equipment category would be handy? just a thought, no biggie.

I may be wrong about the number of pins in the round connection, but you know the one to which I am referring...

I have a nomad data collector that I use to run my Nikon D-50 (old) total station. On the bottom of my data collector there is a 9 pin connector (not round). I have a cable that connects from the 9 pin on the data collector to the Round connector on my total station.

You have to have a cable for Topcon/Sokkia. The cables all look the same, but, most are specific to a particular total station.

Thanks Kevin. What I have discovered is my Nomad has a USB boot instead of a serial boot, so I need a round 9-pin (Topcon) on one end and a USB on the other end. I have found some online, but they say "instrument-PC" connection, not instrument to data collector. And of course I need it yesterday and nobody is open on Labor Day. Never Fails 😀

I could be wrong but I think you may need to purchase the other type of bottom for the nomad. They're not terribly expensive last time I checked.
