Go East until you come to the deer bones.?ÿ Turn right, go over the fence East of the old welded-wire panel and go about 50 feet Southeast to the center of a clump of four-inch hedge trees.?ÿ Can't miss it.

With a somewhat related theme, I pointed out a roadside sight to a coworker Friday that is not a common sight.?ÿ About forty feet from where we surveyed a property line a couple of years ago the landowner has a rather bizarre display.?ÿ He constructed a framework out of iron such that he could place the entire skeleton of a deceased cow in a natural, upright position for the whole world to view as they drive past his farm.

Is it on Roadside America??ÿ There's a lot of oddball stuff out there.?ÿ

This is 2 miles from where I grew up. My brother-in-law sometimes works with the owner.?ÿ The guy welded all this up from junkyard materials.

And then there is this piece of art made of wagon wheels, at a crossroads miles from anywhere.

Better than directions you might get to somebody's house. ?ÿ Go north of where old man Jackson's barn burned, for a couple more miles, and turn right where the McHenrys are going to build their new house.?ÿ The place you want is just over the big hill. Can't miss it.

Back when I was a rodman we had surveyed a parcel and, as was normal, my job was to flag up the pins.?ÿ A couple of days later the boss told that the new owner couldn't find one of the pins and wanted to know if I had flagged it.?ÿ Yep.?ÿ Well go back and tie some more on it so he can find it.?ÿ Okay.?ÿ Go back and tie flagging in trees and brush around it.?ÿ A couple of days later he said the fellow still couldn't find it and flag it up GOOOD.?ÿ Okay.?ÿ The pin was about 200 feet off the road.?ÿ I tied one end of a roll of pink flagging to it and unrolled it as far as it would go (partially used) and then tied on another roll to the end.?ÿ I rolled it all the way to the road, tied it to a power pole, and used another 20 feet or so to make sure the power pole was seen.?ÿ We spent too much on the flagging and it looked like crap, but he DID eventually find it.

Once and only once I was just finishing a job in an area of short grass when the buyer of the tract arrived to see where we had set things.?ÿ I pointed to an orange flag about 100 feet away, another maybe 400 feet away and another maybe 300 feet away.?ÿ He stood there for quite awhile and finally said he could see the one 100 feet away then after quite awhile more he eventually saw the other two.?ÿ He explained that he was color blind and the flags were nearly the same color as the grass.?ÿ He was looking for the movement of the flag flapping in the breeze to separate that from gently moving grass.

@holy-cow

I had an i-man years ago that was color blind.?ÿ I also had no idea how challenging it probably was to have that problem.?ÿ

Around here wheat that's planted in the fall struggles a bit in January and February and the sprouts seems to have a dull pale green.?ÿ By March, after a little rain and sun, the wheat takes on a dark vibrancy and gets (as I refer to it)?ÿ "green as March wheat".

It was March and I had instructed my gunner to set up on a point that was in the middle of a wheat patch.?ÿ The lathed point was flagged with a ton of flo-orange flagging.?ÿ To me it was a most remarkable contrast with the green wheat sprouts.?ÿ He couldn't see it at all.?ÿ I was truly amazed.?ÿ We started doubling up white with the flo-orange flagging and that seemed to help him out a lot.?ÿ

This is wild!?ÿ It turns out the remaining big dinosaurs were moved from the farm to the Dinosaur Park this week.?ÿ I had no idea when I posted above.?ÿ The others were moved more than five years ago based on a post I made in April 2016 about the same story.?ÿ The bronto looks a bit forlorn as there is a need for some welding in the neck area and the tail area so about half of each of those sections is currently on the ground inside the fancy fence that protects these endangered species.
