(Reuters) - For the first time, scientists have found an Earth-sized world orbiting in a life-friendly zone around a distant star.
The discovery, announced on Thursday, is the closest scientists have come so far to finding a true Earth twin. The star, known as Kepler-186 and located about 500 light years away in the constellation Cygnus
Proof that one day there may be more land to survey !!!
So far scientists have found 1800 planets outside our solar system...coolness!!
> Proof that one day there may be more land to survey !!!
On the other hand, perhaps Keplerian surveyors will drive 500 light years to low ball us.
It sure points out how we're celestially quarantined. If we improved our space propulsion technology by several orders of magnitude, getting to that planet would still take as long as homo sapiens has been on earth.
And that planet, the best one found so far, appears a lot less hospitable than Earth with weak solar light.
These rascals look serious...I'll bet they have more than an ICS (Intergalactic Correspondence School) education!

What would you think the going rate for per diem would pay?
Probably the same as here, but the mileage surcharge is a killer.

I don't think we'll have to worry about them doing any drive-by surveys any time soon however.
