There has been a rock slide on the Skalkaho road in Ravalli county, Near skalkaho Falls. We'll be surveying for a wider easement to allow for repairing the slide, re-aligning the road, etc. It is in un-surveyed public domain. This is a county road/state highway of dubious pedigree. The county road declaration is from 1877 approx. and states "from the timber in the Skalkaho to the mills in Missoula". That nails it right down. FWIW- Marcus Daly built the road in his hayday. I'll let you know more later. Have to get with appropriate folks at USFS to veryfiy the way we are going to discribe this.
You do know that only BLM can do original surveys?
I doubt we'll br running any original township or section lines. I'm thinking we'll be referencing our work to some hopefully existant corners on the boundary of the next Township to the west. Theoretically- about 2.5 miles away.
Take Pictures!
As a private surveyor, contracted to the US Forest Service, I have performed original surveys with Special Instructions from the BLM, on wilderness area boundaries in Colorado. So there are some exceptions, kinda.
As long as BLM approves the survey, it is ok.
don't worry..... just leave it easy to retrace! ~ N
Not So Fast, Keith
Any surveyor surveying a new subdivision of land is performing an original survey for those parcels, their associated (interior) lines and points.
Your statement is true for lands which still exist as federal lands.
Not So Fast, Keith
You are right, but I was talking about original surveys of the PLSS.
We are in Newport, OR tonight.
