I'm up here with a crew of young bucks doing a large topo survey at Huntignton Lake, east of Fresno, CA. The site is just shy of 7000'.
The young guys are working as two separate crews doing the topo. I'm doing static observations to establish solid geodetic control for the project (contractual requirement).
I'm absolutely bushed. It was all I could do to open the bloody beer. The others are still out bashing topo while there's light.
Left shoulder hurts from slinging tripods all day.
Note to self...next time bring bottle of oxygen.
< Edit: Moved to Land Surveying for ya. 🙂 )
Yeah, aging can be pretty unkind. I get a lot more tired now from work that never used to bother me, especially in hot weather. The best defense, in my opinion, is a regular exercise program that keeps the muscles (especially the ticker) in shape and keeps the weight off.
I like the high country, though. When I get over 8,000 feet or so the first day might find me a little more bushed than usual, but after that I'm good. After a week of hiking in 8,000' to 12,000' elevations I feel like a million bucks.
Hello up there!!..I'm sitting at elevation 30..+- 0.04'
Many of us would have to travel quite a distance to get above 8000 feet. Don't worry about any competition from me.
I was at 1.5' +/- all day today.
I got a good night's sleep last night. I must admit that I feel much better, today.
Although, I will sleep better tomorrow might in my own bed. We rented a nice condo up here for the week. The guys bought groceries with their per diem and have been cooking. Steak, baked potato and roast corn Tuesday night. Pollo Asasda, beans and a pasta side last night. I had no idea my crews were such great cooks, too!

Daniel,
And you were subsiding even then...:-(

The kid leaves me in his dust. Whatever, I'm taking my time, not going to kill myself.
Helping Gene in Colorado was like that. At 13,000', take 5 steps, stop and try to catch my breath, take 5 steps, etc.
