Geomax ?ÿZoom 90 made in 2017 vs a 2004 Leica TCRP1201. I just wanted to see if there is any difference in speed between the 2. You??ll be surprised with the results. They are both great?ÿ,reliable instruments. You can watch the video here:

It looks like Leica tweaked the code by inserting a few pause lines before handing the firmware over to GeoMax.?ÿ I bet the comment in the source code after each pause command is something along the lines of "FU, tightwad!"
I'd like to see identical data collectors used or a second test where the dc's are switched to the opposite instruments.?ÿ Less memory, slower processor, or slower data rate on the radio could cause one dc to communicate more slowly with it's instrument.
I would say the speed difference is a data collector issue not the instrument. Meaningless test really. If you compare the speed that both instruments turn on the vertical the Geomax looks way faster.
The Zoom 90 and the Archer 2 DC are sold as a combo by Carlson to this day.?ÿ I was just trying to compare the speed only of an obsolete instrument and data collector with the current technology. Those 4s delay mean actually nothing. Zoom 90 is a superior instrument.?ÿ The ATR?ÿ and EDM are much better and it is 1000m reflectorless . I did this test just because someone in this forum mentioned that the Geomax robots are a little faster than the TPS 1200. Since I have them both on my desk, I said why not try and see which one will reaquire a lost target faster and return a measurement.?ÿ
The Zoom90 can only be controlled by a DC that runs Windows Embedded 6 OS, or a Windows 10 tablet , according to Carlson support.I tried connecting my Nomad to the Zoom 90, but I only got limited functionality.?ÿ I could jog the instrument and I could only take a reading?ÿ in reflectorless mode. No Power Search, or ATR capability. Carlson support recommended the Archer2, or a Messa2 tablet, so I got the first one.?ÿ
For the sake of science I eliminated one more variable, the radio link. I paired a Parani SD1000 with the Zoom90 and I set up the Archer2 to connect using the " Cable Connection (115k baud rate)" , so now both DCs have the same kind of radio link and I ran the test again. Watch.
