PC called in sick Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. He has in his wallet, a company fuel card that was used twice on Saturday, and once on Sunday in his hometown. We have not done any work there in months, and we have not worked weekends for months.

Anybody know a decent PC looking for a job?

Wow, that is pretty bold on his/her part.

That is one benefit of being solo. No behavior like this to deal with.

There are a lot of good people that have been laid off over the past few years. Hopefully you will find a good PC that will be thankful to get back to work.

Obviously there is some sort of problem, It warrants a phone call and or visit to his home. It he is/was a good employee it may be something as simple as he just grabbed the wrong card by mistake, or if he is really really sick, maybe he told his teenager to grab the card out of his wallet to fill up Moms car. It may worth asking the question if he is valuable.

If he is not a valuable employee, I would have been there 20 minutes after I found out the card was used asking for it back while handing him his last paycheck with the amount of charges deducted.

Just my thoughts.

Reminds me of a crew chief I worked with several years ago. He ran the company truck, which he wasn't supposed to be using outside of work, into a ditch about 60 miles from the office.

Looking back... There was a pint jar that I kept on my desk that was full of change that went missing about two weeks after he started. Also, he has missed more days due to health, family, and car problems than all of my current an past employees COMBINED. He is really proficient with the equipment and software, that is really the only reason I've allowed so much missed work. And he doesn't have a wife, or kids, and you don't accidentally use the card twice on Saturday, and again on Sunday.

A fellow I know was working in Phoenix, this was before the crash. They put GPS trackers on the work trucks without telling the crews. One of the trucks spent the next weekend in Mexico. Another one went to the Grand Canyon.

When was the last time he was drug tested? Obviously have no idea about this PC, but definitely some telling signs here.

I will put up with a lot, but deliberate abuse is not one of them.

If he is worth keeping and maybe having some personal issues, I would give him the chance to pay back the cost maybe over a couple of paychecks, but if you needed a reason to let him go, looks like you have a good one.

Few years ago, I had a crew that was turning in daily fuel receipts (with milage). I checked the numbers and per the receipts, the truck was only getting 5-6 MPG. Further investigation revealed the crew was stopping for fuel each day at a store that also served cooked food. They were buying breakfast, soft drinks, cigarettes, etc., then having the cashier ring it up as fuel & charging it to the company card.

Crew was gone shortly afterwards...

We had that problem years ago too, except the PC was buying beer with it.

This is the most common problem with company fuel/credit cards.

You can almost always find that one station that will do this.

So what did you end up doing about it?
