So I found a Trimble GPS Receiver beside the road. Anyone know if it is possible to fine the owner from the Serial Number?
Definitely.
Is there a Trimble dealer in Belize? If you contact them they can trace the serial number to the owner assuming they purchased it through a dealer or had any dealings with them. They keep track of all that info.
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.
Thanks, I will check the dealership, but most people here don't go through the dealership. But it would be worth the try.
Maybe post a general description of it here, on this forum. And, where you found it.
The "owner" could have bought it from a thief, who picked it up in Florida, or Texas.
So post the serial number here too. (On this forum)
The world of theft is weird, and the purchaser of stolen goods, sometimes is unaware, and innocent.
Ya never know where it really came from. It could have been stolen more than once!

So the crew returns at the end of the day and the GPS base is gone! ????ÿ
When I was in college I rented a room in a house in a neighboring small town. I came home from school one day and there was a tripod, tribrach and single prism in the living room. I asked my roommate about it and he said 'it was on the side of the road when I went to work and still there when I came home, so I figure they just left it there. I know you have surveyed so I figured you could use it." I told him to take it back to where he found it and set it up on the way to work the next day and explained why it was likely there. He did and it was gone when he came home.
I had a good hearted contractor pick my back-site up one night right in the middle of turning angles at dusk.?ÿ It was next to his construction site.?ÿ Crappy thing was that by the time I got back to its location he had locked it behind a fence and left the area.?ÿ At least I got it back the next day.
