I'm curious what you all prefer for flagging. I have been looking online for the best deal and it has turned into an education on the variety of flagging. I am used to using Presco Texas flagging (it is what everyone stocks around here). I prefer the glo flagging too. I have noticed Presco makes a few varieties: Taffeta, Matte, Texas, and Arctic. I have read the specs and see the differences, but just curious if you are partial to one kind or another and why.
I ran low lately. I went by the local hardware store, and got some 150' rolls of CHINESE flagging. I actually like it. In China there is no OSHA, and sometimes their stuff is better, because the allow their employees to handle more dangerous material, at the expense of the employee. However, sometimes the plastic products last longer, because they are allowed more liberty.
I really don't know where I am headed either, but I want to watch this thread too.

The Chinese stuff is Irwin No 65603.
What many do not know is that plastic is makable with a formula that will basically NEVER rot. (maybe 2-300 yrs) and, it is called "100% stabilized plastic". This 100% stabilized plastic is illegal in USA. Due to environmental concerns. I think some items should be allowed to be 100% stabilized. But, flagging that is CLOSER to 100% stabilized would naturally last longer, and work better for us as surveyors. I suspect that SOME of the overseas stuff is CLOSER to stabilized than USA made.
Just something to add to your shopping list.

Texas GLO ORANGE
Taffetta won't last in a strong breeze
Matte will break on a hot day
Artic is for very cold areask not common to NE Texas
B-)
Presco Arctic flagging. It's the best for cold-weather areas - doesn't get brittle and break.
We use the Arctic pink glo year around here in Upstate NY due to its durability.

I'll admit it. I don't know. From time to time I call Griner & Schmitz in KCMO and place an order for a variety of things. Usually simply say I need another box of orange flagging. That's what shows up. It gets the job done. Dug up a bar today that I set in 1998 and the flagging was doing a nice job. Seriously, never gave it a lot of thought.
Sort of like buying flags. A few times per year I wander into our local County Conservation District office and buy some number of bundles of 100 each for 8 cents per flag. It's been the same price for probably 25 years. And that's the truth.
Texas brand. Naturally, orange glo, my favorite color! None of that sissy pink fer me!B-)
Now that you mention Sexy Pink, I think Victoria should sell some cute little outfit, that looks like it is made of survey flagging! (Now, surveyors should like that!)
I think it would be a great thing!

I buy the Texas Flagging from Hayes Instruments.
I use Pink GLO for property corners, property line stakes, etc. I use Orange GLO for control points. I use most of the other colors, red, green blue, blue glo, yellow, lime glo, white, etc. for various stakes on construction sites.
I like using the specific colors for boundary surveys. It helps when clients call asking what this orange nail is in the middle of the yard. It has saved many a trip out to a site when a client is confused.
I seem to use Pink or any color, but Orange more and more these days. Seems like everyone on a construction site is using Orange and the phone company does as well to mark their lines. I can step back and look at my flagging, and see how everything looks and fits, without having to think is that my Orange or the dirt guys.
Based on several years of working with Presco flagging in the Arizona desert, I can confirm that Arctic has far better UV resistance and thus long-term colorfastness than Texas, but actually seems to be more prone to cracking. I've only used the PreGLO 5 mil version of the Arctic, so perhaps the cracking has more to do with the weight / stiffness of the item than anything specific to the formulation. Has anyone used the standard 3 mil Arctic who could confirm how well it avoids cracking and fading?
Flagging Colors?
I got chewed out by my nephew that does utility marking. Surveyors got stuck with pink.
