Hi guys!
I am a user of both products. In my opinion, Fieldgenius is far superior than SurvCE as far as Offset Routines are concerned. Any comment? I wish to know if I am in same page as you are when it comes to SurvCE offset routines.
Thank you.
Don't know about SurvCE but FieldGenius does not allow a ZERO as an offset value. A small value such as 0.0000001 will work but not ZERO. Its a bug and I reported it a couple weeks ago. Can't believe someone else hadn't reported this as FG has been around for many years but maybe others just use the very minute offset. Other than that, FG works OK for me in the field. I have a choice (for private work) and I use SMI on a Recon. Field calcs are 3x - 5x faster with SMI.
Hi Dave!
What particular offset routine you are referring to that does not allow zero offset? I was able to use all FG offset routines when I was involved in a cement plantwide structural surveying project. I only found one offset routine that is founded on wrong concept - Line Distance Offset. It was founded on bad idea that the elevation of point 1 controls the elevation of the offset point. I reported it to Microsurvey but I was very disappointed when the support just told me to submit a ticket and see for the number of votes it gets. I was very persistent to inform Microsurvey regarding the problem (I call it a bug) but it seems we are not in same page. I am a big fan of Line Distance Offset. Rest of Offset Routines are very effective.
Thanks for sharing.
Regards.
I was using the direction-direction intersection with offsets. Trying to intersect road r/w lines with a line crossing the road. The line crossing the road would have a ZERO offset and the program won't accept ZERO as a value in this case. MicroSurvey is working on the fix.
Hi Dave!
I have tried that (but only once to my memory) and it worked just fine. I don't know what happened.
Thank you.
