Hi There:
I'm providing help to another survey department that still uses field books to import their linework into C3D. They seem to be having some issues with the converted fieldbooks that they are using. They have just lived with this in the past, and have built in checks against these issues, but I'm wondering if there is another solution out there somewhere.
Three questions:
1) Anyone know why FC-2500 (Topsurv 8) converted field books give a large vertical error on check shots (only the check shots) eventhough there is no vertical error shown in the field (or when you calc it manually)? A setting perhaps? It doesn't seem to affect the imported coordinate values.
2) They also seem to have an issue where, if the last thing they did was to make a note before changing setups, the note doesn't make it to the field book file.
3) Another issue they've been having is that C3D seems to grab the checkshot (or possibly just the last version of a control point) and use that data (description and location) to calculate the points in the computer. This results in differences between the datacollector generated points and the imported C3D generated points. Anyone know how to fix this? They've just been living with it and checking to make sure the difference isn't too much. This is probably the biggest issue, for obvious reasons.
Thanks in advance,
Paul
Sounds like an issue with the raw data file! i've had this happen when i goofed a code or instrument/rod height and then over wrote the shot with the same point number.
It really causes some problems!
What version of C3D? Does it have all of it's patches?
C3D 2012. I'm not sure if they have all the patches. I'll check. Do you know of a .fbk issue that Adesk has patched?
We had many odd issues with FBK files over the years when combining with Civil3d.
Our solution was to stop using FBK files and start using point coordinate files instead. It's much easier on many fronts.
I realize this doesn't answer your question but it may be worth looking into.
I also have stopped using .fbk files.
