Anyone using one of these as an everyday surveying tool ?
It's a tool in the toolbox. It has it's uses as it is small and compact and scans faster than the multi station.?ÿ
Agree. Sometimes its the right tool, sometimes not.
We've rented them in the past but don't have enough scanning work to own one.
We have one and use it quite often mostly for our industrial department. We have used it for "civil" scans but doing so proves to be difficult due to the lack of georeferencing. The scan go together fine with the spheres but we always need to to tie down hard points in the scan so we can rotate and move the cloud. If your looking for a scanner and 20-30k is your price point I would look for a used Leica C10, P30 or similar.?ÿ?ÿ

I'm just wondering how difficult is the post processing for topo's or as-builts
I don't have an opinion myself, but my son does. He has been scanning for several years, including extensive experience with the Leicas and Faro. He recently bought a Leica BLK360. The price (~$20k) is very low, even compared to the Faro. And he raves about the cloud registration software that comes with the 360. The thing is so small he carries it in a camera bag.?ÿ
If you are thinking of using the inbuilt GNSS to do registration to your plane. Faro Scene is unable to accurately do a transformation to it properly. It would be easier to use the paper target and shoot it using the total station traverse as well. This helps gives you a report also on QA/QC of the registration of the scans. Have managed to catch out some bad registration before.
