Look at the last photo. Is the vertical circle supposed to be cockeyed like that?

It's interesting looking at all the old instruments in there. Most of the sellers have no idea what they are. There are a lot of builder transits which of course the sellers think are worth hundreds of dollars.

Not only dropped, but then somebody took off the vernier scale so the vertical motion would move. Or don't I understand the design?

I think there are several pieces missing. There is usually some some of guard over the vertical circle, the vertical vernier is gone and I don't see any plate levels.
