I went surveying in downtown Tucson this morning. Normally I wouldn't do that because the narrow streets are congested with traffic, parking is awful, and so on, but this was a freebie job for a non-profit and one of my best clients is involved, so what could I say. There is a heavy fine for a parking violation so I took quarters with me to feed the meters. Plenty of parking where I wanted to be, so I put a quarter in the meter and it said, "Limit has expired" then blanked out. Strange. I tried another quarter. Same thing. I moved up to a different meter, same problem. Drove around the corner to another meter. Same problem. The ParkWise office was across the street so I walked over there. Line of people and nobody at the counter. I called the number on the parking meter, three times, and no answer, so I gave up. At 10 am I finally got through and the very nice lady said the electronic meters had a glitch this weekend and they were not able to reboot them, so they would not be giving out tickets. Great news but now I was miles away. Stupid meters. Stupid system. Stupid downtown.

Bruce, the City accidentally set a free parking day yesterday that was intended for Friday. I had the same issue but I just ignored it.
