Don:

From another site "I use a leicaTCR 1105 which saves to a PCMIA card".

How do you copy the data from your PCMIA card? You may be able to use SD cards and use a normal card reader or maybe not. I have an older Leica that uses PCMIA cards but only the old cards and it is getting hard to find readers for them. Just thought I'd see what others are doing.

I have a PC Card / CF Card adapter.

If you want it, it's yours.

I don't use a Leica instrument anymore, but I have a PCMCIA adapter that the cards slide into a PCMCIA slot on a laptop.

I also have a few cheap, multi-format card readers from Walmart that will read those types of cards, along with the standard sd cards for cameras.

Both my desktop and Brother printer have built in card readers that have slots for the CF cards.

I still use the CF cards every now and then for storing data, and my Topcon Instrument can write data to a CF card as well.

Good luck

OmniDrive

If you have a flash card it is pretty straight forward, especially if you use a CF card, just get a CF to USB adapter and download.

The older 1000 series Leica instruments use a true PCMCIA Static ram card, those are much harder to read, however there is (at least) one device that will read those and that is an OmniDrive.

Some versions of Windows had drivers or 3rd party drivers were available to read the static ram cards, I had to go with the external drive with my latest laptop because I couldn't find any laptops with PC card slots, they have all moved to Express Card slots. I believe there are adapters that fit Express Card slots that you can read a CF card with, BUT not a full size PC card, besides which there may not be any driver solution with WIN7 for the older cards, my findings were I had to move to an external reader. OmniDrive is the solution recommended and sold by Leica, HOWEVER, you can probably by that for less money elsewhere.

OmniDrive

It was easy to request Leica reps for the basic code or utility
to dump directly from their total stations and robots to a laptop.
I used serial and lemo connectors to get to my laptop from the
T1600 and T2000.

I would imagine the standard connection today is a USB cable.
If so, the total station memory would act just like a drive in Windows.

The 1105 uses flash ram so you do not need anything nearly as special as Shelby's Omni for your system. Just get a PCMCIA to Compact Flash adapter which you can pick up at any reasonably stocked electronics store or on-line. If your PC or laptop does not have a CF reader you can get an external or internal reader for a cheap at the same place you pick up the adapter. Your biggest problem my be in the size of the card. If I recall they used 32mb cards & I can not remember if you can use a larger card. I have kept a couple around for our DNA03 and dread the day I have to go looking for a small card.

Thanks Don & All.

I have an older system that uses the Leica TPS 1000 O/S and the later instruments use the TPS 1100 O/S which allow the use of flash cards, mine does not.

Shelby has is right I need a special reader/drivers to make it all work but I am always looking for a chep fix. I currently use a laptop that has a card reader and driver software however the drivers are not available for Win 7 and up. I'll check out the Omin drive.
