How much does a tripod affect the quality of a total station measurement? Does temperature change play a roll? What about fastener tension? Or tripod material? In this video I explore all of these questions using a science based approach.

Nice video.

I'm a big fan of the Leica GST120-9's - originally because to the "self-closing" feature but they do perform very well in all tests I've seen. I've used the Trimax plenty. They are every bit as heavy as the 120-9's and somewhat more bulky.

An interesting follow up would be to take some tripods of each type that have been in service for a few years and test them.
